The reigning AEW World Champion often teases the bidding war of 2024. In the past, he has made it clear that he will go wherever he’s offered the most money. He previously stated that WWE would do whatever it took to get him. In 2022, MJF said that he hadn’t signed an extension with AEW.

The August 2 episode of AEW Dynamite marked the 200th episode of the show. AEW posted a video that revealed what happened after the show went off the air. Tony Khan and Chris Jericho came to the ring. Jericho discussed AEW’s history as the company celebrated the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite.AEW World Champion MJF came out and looked back on when AEW launched. He noted that WWE was interested in him, but part of him felt like he would have a stereotypical character. With that in mind, MJF highlighted the way AEW gives the talent the opportunity to be themselves.

“I wanted to come out here and just tell a very quick story. Now when this company was started in 2019, prior to that, there was only one show in town if you wanted to make real money, and the name of that place was WWE. Around that time, there was most certainly interest in MJF. But there was a part of me that thought if I went there, my name might be Mordecai Schmeckel Jr., and I might have to walk out with a dreidel on or something. But then there was a visionary, and there was also a bunch of men called The Elite, and there was also a guy who, let’s face it, we haven’t always gotten along, but there was Chris Jericho, who took a serious leap. All of them created an alternative, and that alternative gave opportunities for guys like your AEW World Champion who’s over as fuck, to get to be the versions of ourselves we wanted to be,” MJF said.

MJF continued by thanking Khan. He expressed his gratitude as he stated that, thanks to Khan, he will be a very rich man in 2024. MJF started to bring up the bidding war of 2024 before he shifted back to the present and celebrated the special episode of AEW Dynamite. The AEW roster came to the stage and thanked Khan.

“So Tony, what I wanted to say to you, from the bottom of my heart, is thank you. Thank you for making me a very rich man come 2024 because there’s going to be a big bargaining…but okay, now I’m getting ahead of myself. But in all sincerity, I’m not the only person who wants to thank you, Tony Khan. [AEW roster comes to the stage] It ain’t 2024 yet. Get loud, Tampa. Let’s go,” MJF said.

ESPN ranked the top 30 wrestlers under 30, and MJF took the top spot. More information is available here.
