MJF On Potentially Being First To Beat CM Punk In AEW: “It Doesn’t Get Bigger Than That”
MJF’s aware of how big of a moment it would be if he were to hand CM Punk his first loss in AEW.
Reigning two-time holder of the Dynamite Diamond Ring, Maxwell Jacob Friedman recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, where MJF would delve into just how important it would be to knock off Punk.
“It doesn’t get bigger than that,” MJF stated. “I’m well aware of it. Pinning his shoulders to the mat would be the biggest highlight of my career.”
On the 11/24 edition of AEW Dynamite, MJF would come face-to-face with Punk and the pair would verbally go blow for blow in a potential promo of the year candidate, which MJF had no doubts about heading into the segment.
“I thought about it in the comfort of my home,” MJF admitted. “Then I had the balls to go up and say it all right to his face. Here are the facts, we didn’t have a script. We didn’t have a time limit. Me and Punk were in that ring, just talking, on Thanksgiving Eve. That should have drawn, maximum, 700,000 viewers, and I’m being generous. That’s the greatest night to go out with your friends. It’s not a night to stay in. You’re with friends or you’re with family. But when we were in the ring, over a million people were watching.”
No official word from AEW has yet been made on when a potential MJF vs. CM Punk matchup will happen.
Fightful will have live coverage of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, December 8, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
