Miz Says He Still Gets Nervous, Wants To Increase Intercontinental Title’s Visibility
The Miz is no stranger to being on a stage with bright lights. From movies, to wrestling, to The Real World on MTV, even the red carpet. Still, he still gets butterflies.
The former WWE Champion Miz spoke to DC101 recently to promote tonight’s WWE Battleground show. When asked his feelings before he walks through a curtain, he had a surprising answer.
“I’m a nervous wreck. I feel like I’m going to throw up, I feel like I’m going to faint,” Miz said. “There’s just something about it, I get so amped up. I talk to myself in my mind and say, “Why am I doing this? What is wrong with you? Why do you put yourself through this each and every week? Why are you doing this to yourself” But once I go through the curtain and I hear the audience either cheer or boo me, it all vanishes!”
The Intercontinental Champion will defend his title at Battleground against Darren Young. Miz knows that the title isn’t regarded in the same fashion as it once was, but he’s hoping to change that with his media reach.
“When I was a kid, Ultimate Warrior held the Intercontinental Championship, Mr. Perfect held it. Those are the people that I remember and I want to be the person that kids today remember with the Intercontinental Championship. That’s why I do as much media as I can, putting this title out there, showing people exactly what it is, making it the prestigious and honorable title that it is and that is deserves,” said the Miz.
WWE Battleground takes place tonight on the WWE Network from Washington, D.C. Fightful.com will have full, live coverage and a post-show podcast.
