Mikaze Discusses The Inspiration Behind Sasha Banks’ Gear At WrestleMania 37
Sasha Banks debuted a new look at WrestleMania 37, changing her hair color and showing off new gear made by her husband Sarath Ton (aka Mikaze).
Mikaze makes gear for Banks and many WWE superstars, and with it being WrestleMania, he wanted to do something spectacular for the former SmackDown Women’s Champion.
Speaking to Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, Mikaze discussed the inspiration behind the design for Sasha’s WrestleMania gear.
“The inspiration behind it was a designer named Zigman. If you look at his stuff and you can see it. She’s been enamored with him for so long. He’s done stuff for Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. She really wanted to go in that direction. It has a lot of criss-cross straps. I wanted to do something completely different than what she normally has so it took everyone by surprise. Everyone nowadays has been doing the lacing on the kickpad so I wanted to do it in a way that wasn’t like everyone else, so I had the crystals going down the middle and had the nameplate on the side. I wanted it to be like ‘that’s not what she usually wears.’ It was hard. Putting all those grommets in, one at a time, we put it together but I couldn’t put the grommets on until I do the crystals. It was a process,” he said.
Banks was defeated by Bianca Belair in the main event of night one of WrestleMania 37.
Elsewhere during the podcast, Mikaze discussed how he treats Sasha’s gear like new Jordan shoe releases. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
