Mick Foley: There’s A Time For A Win, And I Think It’s WrestleMania 39 For Cody Rhodes

Mick Foley explains why he believes that WWE WrestleMania 39 is a must-win situation for Cody Rhodes.

Mick Foley is someone who has often touted the ability to get over without going over, but he also believes that there does come a time when a WWE Superstar has to get a specific win or risk losing momentum in a way that they will be unable to come back from. Mick Foley believes that the time has come for Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes is going to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 and Mick Foley said on the most recent episode of his Foley is Pod podcast that should Cody Rhodes not win at WrestleMania, he runs the risk of being in a similar position to Lex Luger in 1993 when he did not when the WWE Championship from another member of The Bloodline, Yokozuna at WWE SummerSlam 1993.

Drawing inspiration from Jim Cornette saying that Lex Luger came out of that situation “flatter than a plateful of piss,” Mick Foley explained that WWE is often an exercise in keeping your head above water but sometimes, it is not enough to simply survive.

“I wouldn’t set go so far as to say that’s the way Lex came out of it, but he never regained that momentum,” said Foley regarding Jim Cornette’s urine-centric comparison. “Momentum is so valuable. In so many ways, succeeding in WWE is an exercise in constantly keeping your head above water. But in some ways, it’s not enough just to survive. There’s a moment, a moment in time from which you might never come back from if they don’t do the right thing. Whereas I don’t think wins and losses are as important as some people do. There is a time for a win, and I think it’s this ‘Mania for Cody.”

Mick Foley will be in Los Angeles this year for WrestleMania season and while nothing has been officially announced as of yet, Foley previously stated that he was asked to induct someone into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023. Fans can read his comments here
