Mick Foley, Steve Austin, The Rock Reflect On The Night Foley Won The WWE Title
On January 4, 1999, Mick Foley, with the help of Steve Austin, pinned The Rock to win his first WWE Title. The night was not only memorable due to what happened on Raw, but for what happened on WCW Nitro as well.
Raw was a taped show while Nitro was live and promoting a major main event featuring Kevin Nash vs. Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Title. During the Nitro broadcast, WCW announcer Tony Schiavone revealed that Foley would be winning the WWE Title before commenting, “that’s gonna put some butts in the seat.”
As a result of the spoiler, hundreds of thousands of fans flipped over to Raw and helped WWE win the ratings war on the night.
On the 20th Anniversary of the moment, WWE posted a video of Foley revisiting the Worcester Centrum Centre. You can view the video above. Steve Austin and The Rock commented on the moment.

So cool to watch this. We had no idea we were going to make history this night and alter the course of pro wrestling & @WWE forever. @RealMickFoley is one of the kindest, sweetest, smartest, toughest and craziest men I’ve ever known. All love & respect to you my friend. #goat https://t.co/GKhne204za
