Mick Foley Salutes Dudleys On WWE Hall Of Fame Nod

It should come as no surprise that the Hardcore Icon Mick Foley had to say about the Dudley Boyz being announced as inductees for the WWE Hall of Fame.

Foley posted to his Facebook page after yesterday's news that Bubba Dudley and D-Von Dudley would be part of the 2018 class for the Hall, which also makes the Dudleys the first homegrown ECW wrestlers to receive such an honor.

Writing on his Facebook page, Foley noted that he was in ECW when the Dudleys first debuted as a faction–with Bubba playing a comedy character "stuttering, dancing – an enjoyable character who did not exactly evoke images of greatness down the road." Foley, who moved to WWE and took on the Mankind persona, noted things "got serious" for the team after D-Von was added to the group:

It’s funny how you hear things in bits and pieces when you’re traveling full-time with another company. So Bubba Ray is a heel now? And he has a new partner? They’re not a comedy act anymore? They incite riots? They made the move to WWE in 1999, at which point, everything they’d achieved in the past….meant absolutely nothing! I’m not saying that as a knock on the Dudleys or WWE, either. That’s just the way it is; no one gets to rest on their laurels. Trust me; I know. So does every other guy who walked through that WWE curtain for the first time. Needless to say, they got over in WWE. They got over everywhere they went – worldwide. I was proud to have teamed up with Dwayne The Rock Johnson for one of their first TV matches in the company, after which several WWE Superstars gathered around to see what we thought of these newcomers from ECW. 'They were good, really good' we assured them – and so they were. In time, they would become better than 'really good'. In time, they’d become great, serving up classic matches that can still be devoured today on WWE Network … for a reasonable monthly fee! Really good then. Iconic now – one of the greatest tag-teams of all time, and your newest entries into the #WWEHOF. The Hall just got hardcore! Testify!

The only team in wrestling to win the WWE, WCW, TNA, ECW, NWA and IWGP tag team titles, the Dudleys' first stint in WWE ended in 2005. They made a return to WWE in August of 2015, spending a full calendar year with the company before departing the night after Summerslam. Bubba made his way to Ring of Honor, while D-Von stayed with WWE in a behind-the-scenes role as an agent.

The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place Friday, April 6, in New Orleans as part of the festivities of WrestleMania weekend.
