Michael Cole Commentary Heard Amid Piped In Cheers For Drew McIntyre On 8/2 WWE Raw In Chicago
The crowd sweetening during Drew McIntyre’s entrance on WWE Raw on Monday, August 2 sounded a little too much like Michael Cole commentating over a John Cena segment.
Drew McIntyre was the top babyface in WWE prior to the pandemic. the build to his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 had many genuine crowd reactions that were nothing but positive for the Scottish Superstar. However, as is the case for many top babyfaces, over time, the audience begins to desire something new and cheers can turn into boos.
Since the return of live audiences, Drew McIntyre has received mixed reactions and while he still has his group of supporters, there is a fair share of naysayers as it pertains to the WWE universe and their opinion on Drew McIntyre.
In anticipation of this, WWE piped in some cheers for Drew McIntyre on Monday, August 2, 2021. However, through the cheers, Michael Cole’s voice could be heard saying the phrase “the sixteen-time champion.” While Michael Cole has called many iconic Monday Night Raw moments, he is currently the lead announcer on the SmackDown brand and while Drew McIntyre has captured a few WWE Championships, only one person outside of Ric Flair has captured 16 and that is John Cena.
