Mercedes Mone Was Told Ankle Injury Was Career Ending

Mercedes Mone says she was told her career was over after suffering an ankle injury.

Mercedes Mone was told last year that her career was over.

At NJPW Resurgence 2023 in May, a mini tournament took place to crown the first ever NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. The tournament included Mercedes Mone, who made it to the final of the tournament where she would meet Willow Nightingale. During the match, Willow knocked Mercedes from the top rope, with Mone falling awkwardly on her ankle. The match would end soon after, with Willow pulling out the victory and in the coming days, it was revealed Mone had suffered a serious ankle injury.

While speaking on Kick Rocks recently, Mercedes shared that she had been told that the injury could have ended her career.

“I’ve been working so hard to get back to this place that I love. Little do people know, I was told this is a career ending injury. I screamed at my doctor and surgeon and said, ‘No, it’s not.’ I’m going to come back really soon and I’m going to have the greatest time, the greatest matches, the greatest career that I’ve had yet. I see it. I feel it. I know it.”

Mone has yet to return to action since suffering the ankle injury, but is expected to make her All Elite Wrestling debut this Wednesday at Big Business.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Mone stated that she now feels better than ever. You can read more about that here.
