Maven Recalls Being Terrified Of D-Von Dudley After Tough Enough
Fresh off his Tough Enough victory in 2001, Maven just wanted to earn the respect of his peers.
Unfortunately for him, he tried to compliment the wrong person after a bad outing.
Appearing on Table Talk with D-Von Dudley, Maven recalled being terrified of D-Von when he was just trying to put him over.
“I come off Tough Enough and I’m terrified. I’m in the locker room with a bunch of alpha males, scared to death, and I’m 23-24 years old. All I wanted to do was to earn respect. D-Von comes out of a match, walks down past Gorilla and I go, ‘Hey, D-Von, good match.’ [He scoffs]. Not a thank you,” said Maven.
D-Von gave his side of the story by saying, “It was me and Bubba against The Rock and there was one simple spot we couldn’t get right for the life of us. We kept messing up. I look back the next day and it wasn’t so bad, but you know what is supposed to happen and it didn’t happen. We kept trying to do it, and it sucked. Maven is like, ‘hell of a match, good match.’ I look at him like, ‘Yeah, okay, Tough Enough kid.'”
Maven continued by saying, “Imagine how terrifying that was coming off of Tough Enough and having people angry at you for the way you got into the business. It was terrifying.”
Though the two never worked together in WWE and things got off to a rough start, they ended up friends in the end.
Maven recently made a cameo appearance at FWF Live! in April, performing his signature dropkick.
