Matt Riddle On Why He Wore His Wife’s Shorts For NXT Debut; Names Cesaro As Dream Opponent
Matt Riddle made his highly anticipated NXT debut this past weekend at a live event in Sanford, Florida.
While Riddle’s debut and performance were note-worthy, it was his shorts that caught the eye of many observers.
Following his debut, Riddle’s wife Lisa revealed that the shorts were actually hers.
Speaking The Main Event on ESPN 106.3, Riddle explained why he wore his wife’s shorts instead of his traditional wrestling gear.
“I have other gear that I wore while I was in the Indies with a couple sponsors on there. I didn’t want to wear the sponsors in matches, especially if WWE/NXT didn’t sign off on it. I didn’t think it was very responsive clothing while performing under their umbrella, without their permission,” said Riddle. “I decided to wear blue shorts, which were actually my wife’s shorts. It was last-second because I was gonna wear (the sponsored) gear, but I thought I probably shouldn’t. So I ended up wearing those shorts. I thought they were a success. Some people thought they were a little small. But that’s what I needed. Showing off what I got. I worked hard.”
Later in the interview, Riddle was asked who a dream opponent would be for him on the WWE roster. Riddle named Cesaro, noting, “If were able to just go at it, make it a fight, it would be pretty sensational.”
Riddle defeated Fabian Aichner in his debut match. He has yet to debut on NXT television.
