Matt Martel Says Edge Tore His Triceps At Backlash 2020 During A Reshoot; Shot Wasn’t Even Used

Edge’s tricep injury at Backlash 2020 didn’t even happen during the initial filming of the match.

During the second episode of their BehindTheShow podcast, Matt Martel and Chase Parker, formerly Ever-Rise in WWE, spoke at length about the company’s time in the PC at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to their duties on NXT and 205 Live, the duo was among those tasked with creating noise when an “audience” was placed behind plexiglass.

Martel and Parker spoke about how reshoots were done for a number of matches, including their own. Martel then went on to reveal that Edge’s torn tricep at Backlash 2020 came after he and Randy Orton had already wrapped up their “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.” He said the following:

“It’s funny you bring that up, because so Edge and Randy Orton had that match, like a 45-minute match or whatever, main event of a pay-per-view. I can’t remember which one. I don’t know, so they do the match, 45 minutes long and then they decide match over, high fives, hugs. They bring them back out now to get some cinematic shots and that’s how Edge ends up tearing his pec or hurts his shoulder or whatever because you cool down and you don’t stretch and you’re not up and you just worked for 45 minutes and then you gotta go get this one-shot that they didn’t even end up using anyway.”

After seven months on the shelf, Edge returned to TV on the January 25, 2021 episode of Raw, declaring himself for the upcoming Royal Rumble match. He can currently be seen on SmackDown, where he is feuding with Seth Rollins.

Recently, WWE announced that Bayley suffered an injury while training and will be out for approximately nine months. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported the injury happened during the mandatory “return to road” training session at the WWE Performance Center while doing chain wrestling with another Superstar and was referred to as a freak accident.
