Matt Jackson: People Thought Our Careers Were Over After “Too Sweet”
The Young Bucks say they keep evolving.
Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson (collectively known as The Young Bucks) may be having their best year after almost fourteen years in professional wrestling. They have a merchandise deal with Hot Topic, are organizing their own event called All In, and they are the creative force behind the YouTube series Being The Elite which blends their lives with wrestling storylines.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Matt Jackson said their "doubters" have been saying The Young Bucks would eventually fall off from their rising careers.
“People said our careers were over when the Too Sweet hand gesture was taken from us. Now, it doesn't even feel strange not doing it. People said we only knew how to work one style. Then we switched it up completely. People said Bullet Club had peaked for years now. Yet, here we are, as we continue to help it stay interesting and popular,” said Matt Jackson.
Regardless of their motivations, Matt Jackson said his goal is to please the fans with their style.
“Maybe it’s not just us trying to prove the doubters wrong, but maybe it’s us wanting to prove something to ourselves as artists. We’re never not thinking about the next phase. I hope fans continue to enjoy how we feel wrestling should be viewed in 2018,” said Matt Jackson.
Nick Jackson was also interviewed and he agreed with his brother that they take motivation from their critics but he also said they have not tried to please everyone. The two brothers also discussed what they have going on in 2018 including New Japan Pro Wrestling, Being The Elite, and Ring of Honor.
The Young Bucks will defend their ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship along with Adam Page at the Ring of Honor 16th Anniversary. Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage of that event and a recapping podcast.
