Matt Hardy comments on the Young Bucks’ new characters.
The Young Bucks had been absent from AEW since they lost to Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear 2023. They returned on the January 10 episode of AEW Dynamite, where they stared down Darby Allin and Sting. Since then, the Bucks, who have been going by Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, have heavily leaned into their EVP roles, and they have also displayed some newfound viciousness as they brutally attacked Sting and Allin after they won the tag team titles.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, co-host Jon Alba noted that it seemed like the Jacksons were having a good time in this role, and Hardy agreed. He noted that they had worked hard on tweaking their characters.
“Yeah, I think so. I know, right from the jump, they were working really hard to kind of carve out this role and figure out exactly how do we tweak our characters so we still retain the premise of what our characters are, but now we’re these snobby EVPs and can kind of flex our power. So they were really working hard to kind of carve it out, and I think they’ve got it down. I’m really proud of what they’ve done, and I think they’ve got something really unique and really special they can run with for a while,” Hardy said.
Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are set to compete on the February 23 episode of AEW Rampage. Fightful will have live coverage of the show as it airs.
The Young Bucks are scheduled to challenge Darby Allin and Sting for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at AEW Revolution. More information is available here.
