Matt Hardy Says He Was Making Upwards Of $300,000 A Year On First IMPACT Wrestling Contract
After leaving WWE in 2010, Matt Hardy joined IMPACT Wrestling (TNA Wrestling) in January 2011 at TNA Genesis as the surprise opponent for Rob Van Dam.
Hardy joined up with Immortal, but his run with the company didn’t last long as he was suspended by the company in June and then released in August following a DUI arrest.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Xtreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt was asked by a fan how long his contract was for.
“I signed for three years when I first signed with TNA. It was a three-year deal,” he said.
When asked by co-host Jon Alba how much he signed for, Hardy replied, “It was good. It was really good. It also allowed me to do outside things. It was a really good deal. I think it was around $300,000, and you could do stuff outside of wrestling as well. It was upwards of $300,000. It gained a little bit each year.”
Hardy noted that Bruce Prichard was the one to call him about his release and that Bruce said he was disappointed that Matt never called to check in while he was suspended. Hardy said that not checking in showed his mindset at the time.
Hardy returned to IMPACT in 2014 to once again reunite with his brother Jeff. He remained with the company until 2017.
Elsewhere during the podcast, Matt discussed his recent AEW Dynamite match with the Young Bucks. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
