Matt Hardy: In A Perfect World, The Hardy Boyz Would Have Our Last Match Against Edge & Christian

Matt Hardy talks about the most appropriate storybook ending for the tag team career of The Hardy Boyz.

Matt and Jeff Hardy are one of the most influential tag teams in the history of modern wrestling and they’re also one of the most decorated teams ever in the industry. However, despite their long list of accolades, they are always most commonly associated with Ladder Matches and in particular, the first-ever Tag Team Ladder Match in WWE, which they had with Edge & Christian.

Through the years all four men have gone on to have tremendous success as singles competitors, but Matt Hardy says that in a perfect world, he and Jeff Hardy would end their career as a tag team by stepping in the ring one last time against Edge & Christian.

“I mean, I think in a perfect world, it’s Edge & Christian,” Matt Hardy said during a recent Q&A edition of his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy. “You know, those are the guys that we became stars with and our rivalry is just so iconic. I feel like that would be a pretty amazing way to end it, have one last match with those guys.”

Matt Hardy did say that the only other alternative for a retirement tag team match would be against Matt and Nick Jackson, The Young Bucks. As it stands, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy’s last tag team match on record is against Matt and Nick Jackson at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

Coming out of that victory over The Young Bucks, Matt Hardy was hoping that 2022 would be the year that The Hardy Boyz would cement their legacy as the greatest tag team ever but unfortunately, the need for the family to shift focus onto Jeff Hardy’s health and well-being has put those plans on hold.
