Matt Hardy: “It’s Not 100% Decided What I’ll End Up Doing Once I Return To WWE TV”

Matt Hardy hints at a WWE return.

Hardy has been off WWE television since July 30 when he and Bray Wyatt lost to the Revival in tag team action. Hardy has teased retirement, even going as far as saying “its time for me to go… its time for me to go home” following a live event on Sept. 15. Hardy revealed over the summer that his pelvis and lower back had been fused together after years of performing high impact leg drops. There were reports that Hardy would transition into a producer role backstage.

But now, it sounds as if Hardy is ready to return to television and the ring.

“It’s not 100% decided what I’ll end up doing once I return to WWE TV, that hasn’t been finalized yet,” Hardy told Oliver Alvar of CulturaColective“But I’m pretty sure we’ll take a tangent from the Woken/Broken Matt Hardy persona. That persona will definitely live on at the Network, and it might come back out on TV. I feel like when I return to WWE TV it’s gonna be—have you ever seen The Incredible Hulk when Bruce Banner got angry and turned into this green monster?—well, I feel you’re gonna have Matt Hardy and then there’ll be something that causes Matt Hardy to transform into Woken or Broken Matt Hardy.”

Hardy will bring the Woken/Broken persona to the WWE Network this Sunday when the House Hardy Halloween Special airs following the conclusion of WWE Evolution.

As far as an in-ring return is concerned, Hardy said he is going to “petition to have a Hardy Boys tag-team match” when WWE heads to Mexico on Dec. 1 for a live event.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hardy touched on the subject of retirement, admitting, “I’m at a point right now where I’m pretty passionate about all the aspects of the business, and I’m sure that I’ll never retire in full, because there’s a lot of things to do.” But when he does retire, he does see him working as a producer and helping out other wrestlers in the creative department.

“I’m also very passionate about helping to create ideas or stimulate creativity in terms of how you present your persona or put together your match and the kind of story you’re telling,” said Hardy. “When all is said and done (whether it’s in four weeks or in four years), I’ll probably become a producer to help put together content. I like the writing aspect of television as well. I feel I’m a somewhat creative person, so I’m definitely interested in that too.”

Prior to his hiatus, Hardy was teaming with Bray Wyatt as the Deleter of Worlds. The two captured the Raw Tag Team Titles at the Greatest Royal Rumble in April. They lost the titles to Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas at Extreme Rules in July.
