Matt Hardy Explains Why He Was Driven Home After AEW All Out Instead Of Flying
Matt Hardy suffered a scary injury at AEW All Out when he was speared off a scissor lift by Sammy Guevara, hitting the back of his head on the concrete. Hardy appeared to be unconscious and had trouble standing shortly after the spot. The match was initially waved off, but then continued, with Hardy picking up the victory.
According to Tony Khan, Hardy did not suffer a concussion — Hardy’s wife Reby disputed the diagnosis — and he was able to return home the day after the event. Many wondered why Hardy was driven home following the incident instead of flying if he did not suffer a concussion.
In a new YouTube video, Hardy explained.
“I have been driving since day one when I started in AEW in March. A lot of people, after I got banged up and suffered my injury, a lot of people were wondering ‘oh my God, he was driven home, is it a conspiracy?’ It’s not, I’ve driven since day one, every time I’ve been to Jacksonville. The whole reason I drive, it’s like a seven-hour drive, was so I don’t have to go through airports. It’s not too far and I can drive it, so I drive and it gives peace of mind to myself and helps me protect my wife, children, and very old father (from coronavirus),” he said.
Hardy would appear on the Dynamite following All Out, saying his journey in wrestling is not over.
“The incident that happened at All Out, it’s changed me. It’s made me think differently, feel differently, and the saying is ‘what doesn’t kill you makes your stronger,’ I feel like it’s made me a better person and a better man. The people closest too me have been able to tell it’s a new me,” he said later in the video.
It is unknown when Hardy will be able to return to the ring.
