Matt Hardy Believes Sting Challenging MJF For The World Title In His Last Match Could Be Intriguing

Matt Hardy comments on Sting nearing the end of his career.

Sting has revealed that AEW Revolution 2024 will be the setting for his final bout. As his career begins to wind down, many in the industry are reflecting on what he’s meant to professional wrestling as a whole and giving fun fantasy booking scenarios of how they think Sting could eventually ride off into the sunset.

On the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy commented on Sting’s announcement, saying that while it will be sad to see him go, nobody deserves a better retirement.

“I mean, he deserves it. It’s gonna be sad to see him go. He’s one of the guys I look forward to seeing every week, you know, whenever he is at television. What an amazing dude. What an amazing wrestler. What an amazing run. I can’t say enough good things about Steve Borden. Sting is just fantastic from head to toe. God bless him. He’s had this incredible run, this incredible longevity. He very much deserves to I’ll hate not seeing him around. I hope he still does come around, even just as a character, if he’s not wrestling at all,” Hardy said.

As for his last match, Hardy believes that a singles match is the way to go. Hardy believes that a potential match against Sting’s protege, Darby Allin, or even a match against Kenny Omega.

“That’s an interesting question. I would love to see his last match be against a top star. I would love to see it be against a Kenny Omega or MJF. Considering it’s AEW, it would not surprise me if it’s against Darby Allin. I can see him, too, being cool with that in an effort to try and leave something special for Darby when he’s getting ready to step away,” Matt said.

Furthermore, Matt feels that a potential AEW World Championship match against Maxwell Jacob Friedman could be a fun way for “The Icon” to close his career.

“I think it would be a hell of a deal, too, if it was his last match and say MJF is still the champion at that point if it was him vs. MJF. One last chance on one last night to try and win the AEW Heavyweight Title before he retires. That’s intriguing as well.”

While plans are always fluid in the world of wrestling, Sting has already said that his last match will not be a singles match. Rather, he plans on competing in a tag team match with Darby Allin. Learn more here
