On January 15, Paul Walter Hauser won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in Black Bird. He sparked plenty of buzz in the wrestling world with his acceptance speech, as he said he would beat Matt Cardona in their upcoming match, and he also mentioned Kota Ibushi.
Speaking with TMZ Sports’ Dean “Mojo” Muhtadi”, Matt Cardona shared his thoughts on Hauser mentioning him in his speech.
“This guy, he’s trying to leech off my buzz. I get it. Most people, they call out god in their acceptance speech. He called out The Indy God. But he didn’t call me out, he threw me under the bus. He said he was gonna beat me. Bro, everyone watches the Emmys. My mom texted me. My mom was watching. He embarrassed me in front of my mother. So now, March 16 at REVOLVER, I’m gonna embarrass him in front of the whole wrestling world,” Cardona said.
Cardona went on to note that he was flattered that Hauser thought of him during such a special moment, but he made it clear that he did not appreciate the way the actor tried to embarrass him. Cardona again noted that his mom watched the Emmys.
“He just name-drops me on the Emmys. Not just name-drops me, but basically tells the whole world that he’s gonna beat me. Which, I guess I’m flattered that he was thinking of me in that special moment, but I do not like that he called me out, said he was gonna beat me, tried to embarrass me. Like I said, my mom watches the Emmys. That was not something that I wanted to hear,” he said.
When asked for a final message to Hauser, Cardona said, “Paul Walter Hauser, listen, have your month of fun. Enjoy that Emmy because when I beat you and I become the Emmy god, I’m gonna shove that Emmy straight up your ass.”
Cardona will face Hauser at Wrestling REVOLVER Ready or Not on March 16.
Cardona previously responded to Hauser by highlighting his status as a Slammy Award winner. Check out his comments here.
