Matt Cardona Compares His Role In ‘The Last Match: A Pro Wrestling Rock Musical’ To Cocky ’80s Heels

Matt Cardona is confident that he succeed when he takes the stage for “The Last Match: A Pro Wrestling Rock Musical” because he’ll be leaning into his wrestling persona.
The musical is set for September 26, and it will be held at at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, NJ. As previously announced, Cardona will play Alexander Swagger in the show.
In an interview with Slam Wrestling, Cardona discussed his involvement and admitted that he never wanted to be an actor before this opportunity came about.
“So full disclosure, I never wanted to be an actor. I never wanted to. I never took acting lessons. I never wanted to go on auditions,” he said.
Once he was presented with the role of Swagger, Cardona accepted it. He described how the character reminds him of the classic cocky heels from the ’80s, and he expressed his confidence that he could make that work.
“I compare him to like the best, cocky ’80s heels combined, you know? Macho Man Randy Savage, Ravishing Rick Rude. I’m like, ‘Well, I can kind of pull that off,’ and is it really acting because that’s kind of like my current wrestling character. I’m just reading some lines, wearing a different outfit,” Cardona said.
