Copeland has been AEW TNT Champion since the March 20th episode of AEW Dynamite when he defeated Christian Cage in an “I Quit” match. This was his first title defense.
Cardona and Copeland (Edge in WWE) have a long history dating back to when Cardona (Zack Ryder in WWE) made his WWE debut as an Edgehead alongside Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers). Cardona was previously on AEW TV in 2020 as the tag team partner of Cody Rhodes. He also wrestle at AEW All Out 2020.
Cardona is currently a free agent.
After the bout, the lights went out and Malakai Black stood in the middle of the ring. Buddy Matthews would attack Copeland from behind. Mark Briscoe and Eddie Kingston made the save.
