Marty Scurll’s Goal As ROH Booker Is To Bring Companies Together
Marty Scurll has been on the job as ROH booker for reportedly a month now and he’s received praise for the job he’s done for bringing companies together.
Before Scurll took over duties, ROH had ended its partnership with NWA while its partnership with NJPW seemed icy. Since Scurll has taken over, ROH talent has been used at NWA events and NJPW talent will be present at ROH Supercard of Honor in April.
Speaking to Behind The Gorilla, Scurll discussed a goal as booker of ROH.
“That’s one of other things I wanted to do for Ring of Honor, help build these relationships with other companies that both parties get from. In wrestling now, there’s a lot of big companies and it seems like they’re all competing with each other. Why can’t we work together? If you’ve got two great companies, rather than go head-to-head, just work together, and at the end of the day that’s going to best for business with everyone, but most importantly the fans. I see all the time that fans are so interested in cross-promotional stuff with dream matches. That’s what the fans want, let’s give it to them. I’ve got many friends in the business, let’s work together, that’s my aim right now,” he said.
Scurll was then asked how his schedule has changed since taking over booking duties.
He replied, “It’s been a real juxtaposition in my life because I’ve gone from wrestling to this new role where I’m essentially running a wrestling company. During the week, when I used to train and workout, now I’m working 24 hours a day. It’s a lot different but it’s very rewarding because my main purpose and main priority is not to myself, but it’s the company. I’ve always been good at self-promotion and now I have got to do the same for Ring of Honor. It’s a lot of hard work, it’s stressful, but it’s a good stress and it’s rewarding. It’s cool to see the cool things we can achieve. It’s exciting. I’ve always wanted to go into a role like this and here I am now.”
Before he re-signed with ROH, most figured he would end up in AEW with his friends and Elite running mates when his contract expired in November 2019. But The Young Bucks got the hint three months ago that Marty would be staying with ROH. You can find their full comments on Scurll staying by clicking here.
