Mark Sterling On His AEW In-Ring Record: I’m Trying My Best, It’s A Step Up In Competition

Mark Sterling says he tries his best when he wrestles in AEW, but he’s best used in his work for his clientele.

“Smart” Mark Sterling says he tries his best when he wrestles in AEW, but he’s best used in his work for his clientele.

Sterling currently has Tony Nese and Josh Woods on his list of clients, and he used to work with TBS Champion Jade Cargill. Occasionally, Sterling has stepped into the ring in AEW, and he has lost each one of these contests.

Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Sterling was asked whether he’s holding back as a wrestler and trying to fool people. He responded by noting that, in AEW, the competition is a step up, and he tries his best when he has to compete. However, he noted that his best usage comes in his work with his clients.

“Well, hey. AEW, obviously, a step up in competition than the indie circuit. So I’m trying my best, if I’m thrown out there. But I feel like where I am best used is helping my clientele,” Sterling said.

He continued by emphasizing the difference between wrestling on the independent scene and performing in AEW.

“You can be the greatest softball player of all time, but I bet you can’t hit a fastball in the major leagues, right? Hey, I’m doing my best,” Sterling said.

When asked to name the worst wrestling lawyer of all time, and he pointed to one that was in WCW during 1996.

“I was just watching all of WCW ’96 very recently. There was an angle, I’m trying to remember who it was, but there was a lawyer for about three months. I don’t even remember his name, but I would be willing to say that lawyer in WCW ’96 was the worst wrestling lawyer. He certainly didn’t wrestle in a jumpsuit like this,” Sterling said.

Sterling also brought up a wrestling lawyer he liked, saying, “Right, yeah, exactly. Clarence Mason’s the man.”

Sterling remains active on the independent scene; he recently defended the CAP Tag Team Championship; more information is available here.
