Maria Manic Believes Wrestling Should Have Weight Classes, Has No Issue Wrestling Men

In Maria Manic’s short stint with Ring of Honor, she’s already made an impact in standing up to the men. Manic was beginning to run through the women’s division by the end of 2019, leading to her and Bully Ray getting into a confrontation.

Bully Ray ended up putting Manic through a table at Final Battle Fallout 2019 and the two seemed destined to clash at some point. Manic was also involved with the men at ROH Free Enterprise when she competed in a 20-person battle royal.

Appearing on ROH Strong, Manic was asked about intergender wrestling and stepping in the ring with men.

“It’s case-by-case. Do I want to wrestle men? Yes. I also want to wrestle women. You can’t make someone wrestle me if they don’t want to wrestle me, it’s all about two people agreeing. You say you don’t want a tiny woman fighting a man. I’m 200-lbs, but you wouldn’t want me fighting Brock Lesnar, it’s not realistic, but if we both agree to the fight, I’m probably going to get knocked out, but I don’t mind that. I welcome the challenge. If we both agree to it, we should be able to do it. If I was just throwing around smaller girls all the time, it wouldn’t be all that interesting. But then you have the variety. You see me wrestle a big guy, a small girl, and then a big girl down the road. It’s all diverse. That’s why I like intergender because you never know what you’re going to get. To me, wrestling should be based on weight classes. That would probably make me a men’s cruiserweight. I think I could get to heavyweight at some point,” she said.

When asked if men sometimes don’t want to sell for her, she replied, “I’ve never had [an issue of guys not wanting to sell], but I have had an issue of calling stuff and guys not wanting to give me shit. If this were a shoot, you know I’d get some shit. So, maybe incorporate that when putting together a match.”

On a previous episode of ROH Strong, head booker Marty Scurll discussed the possibility of intergender wrestling in ROH. Scurll said that if there’s a demand for it, they will do it. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
