Luke Gallows And Karl Anderson Were Ready To Exit WWE Six Months After Their Debut
The Good Brothers were ready to say goodbye only six months into their WWE run.
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are officially free of their WWE contracts and they celebrated by hosting a tell-all episode of Talk’n Shop. They certainly told all as they dished on their potential AEW debuts and hard feelings with their friends over not joining the team, Luke Gallows buried Paul Heyman (at Heyman’s request), and they discussed wanting out of WWE after only six months.
Yes, Gallows and Anderson were already looking to exit the mecca of sports entertainment by October 2016 after debuting only two weeks after WrestleMania 32.
“Around October 2016, Gallows and I were driving after I put a pumpkin on my head and went through a table, I looked at Gallows as we were driving and I said, ‘What the fuck just happened? What did we just do?’” Anderson recalls. “From about October 2016, we thought about September 2019 when our contract was going to be complete and how we didn’t know where we were gonna go — we didn’t know what was going to pop up, who was going to be available, what was going to be open, there was no such thing as AEW in October 2016 — but around October 2016, we were like, ‘Fuck, we gotta get out of here.’”
Luke Gallows would recall calling both Karl Anderson and AJ Styles “marks” for wanting to try their hand and WWE, a place that Gallows had already spent a significant amount of his career. In return, they called him a mark for wanting to stay in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. For Gallows, it came down to bad memories and trepidation.
“My memories of how WWE was, I voted no. We had a good thing going in Japan, yes, we wanted to be back in the States. It was trepidation,” says Gallows. “We got over in Japan being us. We came to WWE and, we can’t say we didn’t get more over, but what we did was become more American television recognizable, but that run bastardized what we were and what people remembered from Japan because it’s a completely different thing and it happens to a lot of talent that gets over outside of WWE and then comes to WWE as we’ve seen. History absolutely repeated itself with us. There were moments where we were like, ‘What the fuck have we done?’ Yes, it’s nice to make this money and it’s nice to be on WWE television and the exposure, but what are we doing?”
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson said a whole lot more on the podcast including the fact that they’re headed to IMPACT Wrestling Slammiversary tonight.
Fightful will have live coverage of Slammiversary beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.
