Lita Talks About The Nasty Looking Suicide Dive Against Trish Stratus
Prior to the Women’s Revolution in WWE, Trish Stratus and Lita were the gold standard of women’s wrestling in WWE. They helped prove that women were more than just T&A with a bitter rivalry that spanned over five years.
Lita recently appeared as a guest of honor at the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show, answering questions from fans. When asked about her favorite match in her career, Lita said that her Live Event matches were some of her favorites because she could have fun with the cameras off. She went on to say that her December 6, 2004 Raw bout with Trish Stratus was her favorite televised bout.
As a follow-up question, Lita was asked about the nasty suicide dive in that match. Here’s what she had to say:
“A lot of people think that is when I broke my neck. That was three years after I broke my neck. I dove out and because Trish is much shorter than me, the trajectory has to go down. I did what we end up calling the ‘scorpion dive’ because my feet went over my head like a scorpion. I didn’t know what happened. On that suicide dive, sometimes we’ve seen people can catch their feet on the ropes. I knew I cleared the ropes. When I hit the ground, I didn’t understand, like ‘whoa, how did that happen?’ If you watch it back, I pop up like confused. I hear the crowd gasp and was like, ‘oh, ok. I think that might have looked bad. I’m gonna go ahead and take all 10-seconds of the ref counting to kinda just relax and refocus so I can continue on.”
Lita not only continued on in the match, she went on to defeat Stratus for the Women’s Championship.
