Lio Rush Shares Who He’d Like To Face In AEW; Says He Is A Big Fan Dante Martin
There’s no shortage of great opponents for Lio Rush in AEW.
After appearing at Double or Nothing 2021 in the Casino Battle Royale, Lio Rush seemed on track to signing with AEW but instead walked away from wrestling to heal an injury and focus on himself. He would continue to fulfill his NJPW commitments and returned to AEW on September 29 where it was officially announced that he had signed with the company.
Speaking to Vickie Guerrero on the Excuse Me podcast, the Man of the Hour commented on who he would want to face now that he’s officially on the AEW roster. He said the following:
“I took a few photos when I was backstage at AEW and one that stood out to me was Bryan Danielson. I would love to be in the ring with Bryan, I think we would have a really good match. I need that one-on-one with Kenny Omega. I need it. Anything I do in life, I try to aim for the top. I think I’m more than capable of having some great matches with those guys. Some of the younger guys that are part of the roster, guys like Dante Martin, I would love to be in the ring with him. He’s a guy everyone is talking about, this new age of high fliers. He’s definitely another guy I want to get in the ring with. I’ll cap it off with, I think it’s only right to have a match — starting off with some promos — with CM Punk.”
Lio followed up on his comment about Dante Martin, agreeing that they would make a great tag team. Rush, who took a picture with Dante and his brother Darius at a Ring of Honor merchandise table when they were teenagers, claims that Dante is even better than he was when he was 20.
“We definitely would (make a great tag team). I think Dante is super talented. He’s so young. He is better than I was when I was his age. I can only imagine where he’s going to be in the next few years. He knows I’m a big fan of his,” Rush said.
Dante’s brother and tag partner, Darius, is currently out of action due to a knee injury that forced him to have surgery on his ACL.
On the October 6 episode of AEW Dynamite, Dante Martin issued an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Unfortunately for him, Malakai Black decided to answer the call. After having mist spit in his face, Martin was hit with the Black Mass.
Later in the night, Lio Rush cut a promo where he addressed Dante and told him that they should do business together.
