Lio Rush: I’m Looking For Stability In 2024; At This Point, I Want To Be In One Place
Lio Rush wants more stability in 2024.
For the past number of years, Lio Rush has traveled the world, working for companies like NJPW, PWG, MLW, and IMPACT, as well as many other independent promotions.
In 2024, Rush is looking for a solid home in the world of professional wrestling, as his journeyman status is starting to hurt his home life.
“Right now, it’s day by day, but in 2024, I’m looking for a home. That’s the main thing that I’m looking for in 2024 is stability. I think what a lot of people are doing right now, with wrestling here and wrestling there, wrestling is really at a hot point right now and everybody’s excited. Everybody wants to collaborate, everybody wants to get the rub, everybody wants to be everywhere. Everybody wants to be seen everywhere. I feel like for me, I’ve done that for the past two, three years now. I’ve bounced from here to there. That’s not really something I’m looking for right now. It’s great. It’s great for the companies. It’s great for a lot of the wrestlers, a lot of the guys and girls who haven’t had the opportunity to wrestle in Japan, wrestle in TNA, wrestle in AEW, wrestle on the independent circuits. I did it. At this point, I think it’s starting to bleed a little too much into home life. It’s a lot. It’s a lot for me. It’s a lot for my wife. It’s a lot for my boys. I think we’re all looking for a little bit of stability right now. So 2024, I’m not really looking to be the journeyman. I’m looking to be the man who’s going to put a company on my back and be a champion.”
When asked if he has a destination in mind, Rush said that he’s looking for someone to offer him a deal that is going to make sense for him and his family.
“I could do that anywhere and I’ve already been tested. I’ve already shown that I can be a champion. I’ve already shown that I can be a top guy. Now it’s, again, whoever is going to offer contract, whoever is going to offer a deal that makes sense for me and my family. I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve done it all. At this point, I want to be in one place, and whoever is going to show interest in me and have faith in me to be that person for their company, I think that’s where I ultimately land. I don’t have a specific place in mind. Whoever’s paying, that’s what I’m looking at. Whoever is willing to invest in me. I know my worth. I know what I’m capable of. I know what I bring to the table. I know how professional I can be. I’m coming up on 10 years. 2024 will be my 10th year in wrestling and I’m looking to do something special. I’m looking to do something that I haven’t been able to do yet. I think I’m fully capable of being a World Champion, not just a champion but a World Champion. I feel like I want to do that, not for myself, but for my family, for black people, for short people. It’s a lot I’m thinking about. We’re not all the way there yet. Maybe we have to do a second interview on New Year’s when my thoughts are there. 2024 is going to be a special year. I’m not getting into it to do random things. Random matches are things that are going to put you on the shelf. Everything is with the purpose, for sure.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rush said that he doesn’t know when he’ll return to New Japan Pro Wrestling. Fans can learn more by clicking here.
