Lio Rush Feels He Has Unfinished Business And A Lot To Prove In NXT

Lio Rush reflects on return.

After five months away from WWE television, Lio Rush made his return on the Sept. 18 episode of NXT, defeating Oney Lorcan to become the number one contender to Drew Gulak and the WWE Cruiserweight Title. In a new video posted by the WWE Performance Center account, Lio reflected on his WWE return.

“There’s always that thought in my head of, ‘Man, do I even still know how to wrestle?'” questioned Lio. “I haven’t had a wrestling match in almost half a year. I got into professional wrestling to literally show the world that I’m one of the greatest, and can be one of the greatest athletes, professional wrestlers that has ever lived. No matter the age or experience. I’m gonna show everybody that as long as you have heart, determination, drive, and hunger that you can achieve anything. I feel like my whole life, I’ve done exactly that to get to where I am.”

Rush was called up to 205 Live in June 2018 after a short stint in NXT that only saw him appear on NXT TV a handful of times.

“What’s next for me in  NXT? I feel like I have so much to prove. I have a lot of things that I set out to do in the professional wrestling/sports entertainment world. A lot of unfinished business in NXT. A lot of people that are looking up to me, that are rooting for me, that want me to succeed. I gotta be a role model for them.”

He was transitioned into a managerial role for Bobby Lashley in September 2018 before a series of reported backstage incidents and attitude issues led to him being sidelined following WrestleMania 35. During his time away, Rush focused on his musical career.

“I move forward for me, my boys, my wife, for everybody who looks up to me. I’m not clocking out anytime soon. It’s cliche, but the Man of the Hour is definitely back.”
