Lilian Garcia Talks Embarrassing WWE Moments
One of the signature voices of WWE had her fair share of embarrassing moments on the job.
Retired ring announcer Lilian Garcia talked to Naluda about her life, her interests, her careers, and other topics. Garcia divulged that she had some hard times during her tenure with WWE that she can laugh about now.
”Within 2 weeks of each other, during my entrance to the ring, one week my shoe strap broke where I had to take off my shoes and go barefoot to the ring, and the next one in London, I tripped over the pyro cannons that were not supposed to be there. Scary then, but sure is funny now!!”
The Madrid, Spain native spent 15 years with the sports entertaining company, having left and returned a number of times. While she made the job look easy, ring announcing is quite a challenge. For Garcia, the rules for matches could be a lot to handle.
“When there were big matches, the rules, a page long, would be handed to me that day, sometimes right before the match. I had to memorize every word exactly as they were written, wow….what pressure!! The pressure came from me because I always wanted to do my best and make the match introductions extremely special!” she said.
Garcia announced Aug. 1 that she would be leaving WWE. Her father has two types of cancer and wanted to focus on taking care of him. In addition to ring announcing, she has seen success in her singing career and released an album, ¡Quiero Vivir!, in 2007. She has also sang the national anthem at NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL games, as well as the U.S. Open and NASCAR races.
