Kurt Angle Says Vince McMahon Thought He Had A Fetish For Black Women
Kurt Angle opens up about the worst storyline he’s ever been a part of.
In the spring of 2005, Kurt Angle entered into a feud with Booker T. A major plot point was his infatuation with Booker’s wife, Sharmell, which saw him stalk her for a number of weeks. After losses to Booker at Judgement Day and the June 2 SmackDown, the angle finally reached its conclusion.
During the most recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show (via AdFreeShows), Kurt shared that he didn’t know where the story idea came from. He also talked about Vince McMahon and how this all may have been an in-poor-taste prank. Furthermore, he said he was uncomfortable throughout the entire angle.
“I have no idea where the idea came from,” Kurt began by saying. “I think that Vince McMahon — You know, Vince is kind of a ribber. He’ll do stuff to mess with you a little bit and to kind of shove it in your face. I think he thought I had this fetish for black women. I like all women; white, black, Hispanic. It doesn’t matter. My wife is half-Hispanic half-Italian. So I think Vince thought I had this fetish for black women and he thought it’d be a funny program and I was not comfortable by any means. I had so much respect for Booker T and Sharmell. To do that and pretend I was stalking his wife, it was just the worst angle I’ve ever done. I did it anyway because I’ve always been a team player, but I was not comfortable while doing it.”
Angle remained with WWE until 2006. He would spend the next decade with TNA (IMPACT! Wrestling) before returning to WWE in 2017 after it was revealed that he would be inducted into their Hall of Fame.
The Olympic Gold Medalist was released in April 2020 and during a recent interview with Fightful said that the creative process is not the same now as it was during the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression Eras. Those comments can be found here.
