Kris Statlander Praises Willow Nightingale, Believes She Deserves To Be Featured At Forbidden Door

Kris Statlander believes Willow Nightingale deserves to be rewarded for her work as of late.

During a recent appearance on Haus of Wrestling, the AEW TBS Champion was asked if there were any plans for her to face Mercedes Mone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 25. After saying that she never hard anything, Statlander pivoted and took the opportunity to make the case for Willow to be featured at the co-branded event.

“If there was plans, I did not hear about them. So I have no idea. I wasn’t on the first Forbidden Door, which is fine. I think it’s good to showcase people that don’t always get those bigger matches and those bigger showcases. I think it’s good to give them the opportunity. I think that it’s really a spot that Willow should be in being the New Japan STRONG Women’s Champion. I think that would be a really good spot for her to step up and defend that title against someone. I think she deserves that. She’s been here and she’s been killing it consistently. I think that’s a really good spot for her to be in. Not that I don’t deserve that spot, but I just won my title and I’ve been wrestling nonstop already. I do think she deserves that big spot though,” she said.

At NJPW Resurgence, Nightingale defeated Mercedes Mone, who suffered an ankle injury during the match, to become the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion.

At AEW Double or Nothing, Kris Statlander returned to action after missing more than eight months due to injury. That night, she answered Cargill’s open challenge for a TBS Championship Match. Statlander was able to capitalize on a beat-up Cargill, who had just finished defeating Taya Valkyrie, ending Jade’s undefeated run and capturing the title. Click here to learn more.
