Konosuke Takeshita Says He Contacted AEW On His Own, Aims To Be On AEW TV In 2022

DDT Pro Wrestling standout Konosuke Takeshita made a surprise appearance at AEW The House Always Wins, teaming with The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, and Michael Nakazawa in ten-man tag team action.

Takeshita would return to the AEW ring on April 12, 2021 when he defeated Danny Limelight on AEW Dark: Elevation. He also teamed with Omega & Nakazawa on the April 19 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation.

Speaking to Tokyo Sports, Takeshita discussed his time in AEW and wanting to return.

“2020 was a tough time for me personally. There are many injuries. So at the end of 20 years, I decided that ’21 years should be a moving year’ and passed the year. So I contacted AEW at my own discretion without telling the company,” he said. “The world is wide. Aim for a TV show at AEW this year. I think I can get involved in the top front if I have a chance. I think it’s okay to go as the champion of KO-D, so I have the feeling of a title match in the United States.”

Takeshita mentioned that he would like matches with Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.

When asked about possible joining WWE, Takeshita said, “To be honest, I’m less interested in WWE. At that time, there was only WWE in “Major League”. No doubt, AEW is the most attractive professional wrestler right now.”

It is unknown when Takeshita will return to AEW.

He has remained active for DDT Pro Wrestling since returning to Japan.
