Kona Reeves Reveals He Underwent Surgery In March For Torn Labrum

If you’re wondering why Kona Reeves hasn’t been seen on NXT television during the empty arena era, it’s because he’s working his way back from labrum surgery.

Reeves joined Dan Matha on the Spark in the Dark podcast and explained his injury and recent surgery.

“I got surgery on March 14. I had five anchors put inside of there. I was taking a clothesline over the top rope, I was coming down and my shoulder hit the apron pretty hard. Popped out,” he recalled.

Reeve said the injury happened during a six-man match, which Matha was also a part of. Reeves noted that Matha checked on him after the injury occurred and he was able to finish the match.

Reeves continued by saying, “This shoulder hasn’t been 100% for the longest time. When I was just starting with wrestling, I don’t know what I tore, I think it was my labrum, I tore a small part of labrum in my back, but I never got surgery. They said if I did physical therapy over the years, it would get stronger, but it would never fully heal. I never got surgery. It felt fine, I wrestled five and a half years on it.”

Reeves also provided an update on his progress saying he hopes to be back in the ring in a month and cleared for action in two months.

“It was the best time to have surgery done. I wish I didn’t have it because I feel I would flourish right now with how they are filling Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. I feel my entertainment would flourish in this environment,” he said.

Reeves has been part of the crowd during the empty arena era and said he likes to bang on the plexiglass to a beat.
