Kofi Kingston Recalls Flipping Off Samoa Joe On WWE TV, Getting Vince McMahon’s Approval
Kofi Kingston showed a different side of himself during his feud with Samoa Joe in 2019, flipping off Joe in a moment that seemed to be outside the ordinary for Kingston.
On New Day: Feel The Power, the trio were discussing the reactions to Big E’s Money in the Bank briefcase victory when it was revealed that Kofi used choice language on the whiteboard to congratulate Big E.
This led Big E to recall the moment Kofi flipped off Joe during their feud.
“[Kofi], throwing up the bird, when you had the WWE Title with Samoa Joe. For some reason, you flipping him the bird, I feel like you’re the most unlikely person to flip anyone the bird in WWE history,” said Big E.
Kofi commented on the moment, saying, “The whole situation was so funny because we were talking about how we wanted to present this idea and we needed a punchline. I was like, ‘it’s got to be the middle finger.’ Maybe not the middle finger, but something along those lines. The more we talked about it, it was like, ‘Nah, it’s gotta be the middle finger.’ We went in and asked He Who Shall Not Be Named [Vince McMahon] and he cleared it. ‘Yeah, that’ll be fine, we’ll just shoot around it.’ What? Okay. Good luck. Sure enough, the cameraman went over the shoulder and you could see me legit cheesin’ that I get to throw the middle finger up on TV. The little things.”
Kingston and Joe would wrestle at WWE Extreme Rules 2019 with Kingston successfully defending the WWE Championship in the bout.
Joe is set to make his in-ring return at NXT TakeOver 36 when he takes on Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship. You can find Joe’s comments on his return by clicking here.
