Kofi Kingston Credits John Morrison For Inspiring Him To Do Unique Royal Rumble Saves

Kofi Kingston talks about being the guy that people expect something cool from in the Royal Rumble.

One-third of the New Day, Kofi Kingston has accomplished a great deal of success during his time in WWE as Kofi is a four-time Intercontinental Champion, a three-time United States Champion and has won the Tag Team Titles eight different times. There is also another accolade that does not show up on Kofi’s stat sheet as he finds himself avoiding elimination from the Royal Rumble match each year in a unique way

In last year’s Rumble match, Kofi had one of his feet on the floor while the other stood atop of a pancake and then Kofi was catapulted back into the ring by Big E and Xavier Woods. The WWE veteran spoke with ‘The Sun’ about his Royal Rumble tradition and said that he did not expect to become the guy that every one looks to for that cool moment in the Rumble and added that current IMPACT World Champion John Morrison was the individual that started the unique escape tradition as far as he’s concerned.

“I didn’t expect to become the guy who people look to do something cool in the Rumble in terms of avoiding elimination. Actually, it was all started by John Morrison for me when he got knocked off the apron and jumped all the way to the barrier and parkoured his way back in to the ring. Then the next year when it came to the Rumble he was not around so I was like, ‘Hey let me try to fill this void’.” Kofi explained. “It became something cool and I tried to figure out something to do it again the next year and then all of a sudden everyone is like, ‘What’s Kofi gonna do now?’ Fast-forward a few years later and here we are. It’s cool and I couldn’t say exactly which one was my favorite, I just put them all out there and let the people rank and pick their best. It’s just cool to be in that spot.” Kingston continued, “The Royal Rumble is really about being the guy who survives 30-plus people and goes on to WrestleMania, then people are also looking at me. So it’s really great to be in that position.”

Kofi is one of twenty men currently slated for tonight’s men’s Rumble match and to view the updated list of competitors in the men’s and women’s Rumble matches, check out Fightful’s published article on the topic.
