Kofi Kingston: Brock Lesnar Has An Intelligent Wrestling Mind
Kofi Kingston and Brock Lesnar have a short history together, but the two have made plenty of headlines. Lesnar defeated Kingston on the first SmackDown on Fox episode to win the WWE Title in a seven-second match that left many fans upset.
At the Royal Rumble, the moment came back around as Kingston, Big E and Rey Mysterio grouped together to try to conquer “The Beast.” While they were not successful, the story of Brock running through the first half of the Rumble was well laid-out and created many moments of drama.
“A lot of people don’t understand — you see Brock Lesnar on TV and you see a man who is physically daunting and dominating, but he has an awesome mind for the business. I feel like he will never get that credit for that,” Kofi Kingston told Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT. “Someone doesn’t get to be in WWE for decades without having a great mind. You see Paul Heyman being the mouthpiece and you think Brock has a small part in that. He has a big part. He has a very intelligent wrestling mind and understands what business is in terms of building stuff. If Brock and I had more of a match on SmackDown on FOX, then the moment at the Rumble, people probably wouldn’t have gotten up as much. It was a great piece of the story. It was a lot of great storytelling coming together. Everything is important, as minuscule as it might be. Seeing Rey, me, and E on the outside banding together. If it wasn’t built like that, it wouldn’t have meant as much for Drew. Why did that happen? Brock did it to elevate Drew. The pieces of the story were told in the right way.”
Drew McIntyre made similar comments about Lesnar leading up to WrestleMania 36, calling him a “genius” for the way he laid out the Royal Rumble. You can find Drew’s comments by clicking here.
The full interview between McCarthy and Kingston will be available at TalkSPORT.com next week.
