Kevin Sullivan: Gunther Needs To Step Up Because I Don’t Think We’ll See Brock Lesnar Again
Kevin Sullivan believes that there’s a good chance Brock Lesnar may never appear on WWE TV again and that Gunther could fill his position.
After being reportedly pulled from WWE’s creative plans, it is unknown when or if fans will ever see Brock Lesnar back in a WWE ring.
On the most recent episode of the Tuesday with the Taskmaster podcast, Kevin Sullivan spoke about why he believes Gunther can be a great replacement for Brock Lesnar on WWE television after being asked if he would like to see Gunther challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.
“I think they’ll have a hell of a match. Yeah, but I think you have to keep going with Gunther,” said Sullivan. “It looks like you’ve lost Brock, who people pay to see. Right now, [Gunther], is the top horse in your stable that isn’t on the racetrack every day and you’ve got to keep him fed and clothed.”
Continuing on, Sullivan would advocate for Gunther to win a World Championship as the way to get him to that next level.
“Well, Gunther needs to win a belt. I mean a World Title. He needs to step up because Brock is going to be gone. I don’t think we’ll ever see Brock again.”
On January 25, a lawsuit was filed by Janel Grant against Vince McMahon, a former top executive in WWE John Laurinatis, and WWE itself. The lawsuit accuses McMahon of sex trafficking, emotional abuse, and sexual assault.
While Brock Lesnar was never named in the lawsuit, there is a reference to a former UFC heavyweight champion that WWE was actively looking to re-sign in 2021. The lawsuit alleges that Vince McMahon used Ms. Grant in a sexual manner to keep the unnamed performer under contract with WWE.
Gunther and Brock Lesnar were only in the ring once as part of the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble Match, which Gunther began and set the current men’s Royal Rumble endurance record in.
In the past, Gunther had shown interest in a potential match against Brock Lesnar.
Brock Lesnar has also been removed from the cover of WWE 2K24’s 40 Years of WrestleMania Edition. Learn more here.
