Kevin Owens Says A Match With Undertaker At WrestleMania 32 Was ‘On The Table’ And ‘Heavily Discussed’
Kevin Owens looks back at a match that wasn’t.
Kevin Owens opened WrestleMania 32, defending his WWE Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match against Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona), Dolph Ziggler (Nic Nemeth), The Miz, Sami Zayn, Sin Cara, and Stardust (Cody Rhodes).
According to Owens, WWE discussed the idea of having him face The Undertaker at the event.
However, The Undertaker faced Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell match.
“I think things just shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned, so obviously at the time, my standing in the company compared to Shane McMahon coming back after all those years, the thought was probably ‘Shane McMahon versus The Undertaker is a huge match. I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing. My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet. It didn’t happen, but I’ve been in the ring with him. I was actually in the ring with him in the main event of a Madison Square Garden show, so I got to do that with him which was really cool,” Owens told Joe Baiamonte of WrestleSphere.
Owens has had plenty of memorable moments at WrestleMania, including main eventing night one of WrestleMania 38 against Steve Austin and main eventing night one of WrestleMania 39, teaming with Sami Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso).
Owens is set to challenge Logan Paul for the WWE United States Championship in a triple threat match that also includes Randy Orton at WrestleMania 40.
