Kevin Owens Believes He And Sami Zayn Only Scratched The Surface On What They Can Do As A Duo

Kevin Owens wants to do more with Sami Zayn.

Speaking to Inside The Ropes, Owens discussed his 2017 Hell in a Cell match with Shane McMahon and how it led to his partnership with longtime rival Sami Zayn.

“The match itself was memorable for me and hopefully a lot of people. Being in that cell is a crazy experience and being in there with Shane McMahon, who is willing to do pretty much anything, which is similar to the energy I bring in the ring as well,” said Owens. “You watch Hell in a Cell matches long enough, as a performer, you want to be in them. This was my second one and I don’t know if I’ll get a chance to do another one. It’s something that I do wonder, if I get a chance to do another one, how am I going to top this one? Everything from it is so memorable. Sami saving me and Shane crashing and everything after. It makes the match standout and be special.”

Fans were stunned when Zayn saved Owens, who was lying on a table, from being crushed by a Shane McMahon elbow off the top of the cell. Owens and Zayn had been longtime rivals in NXT/WWE dating back to Owens’ NXT debut in December 2014.

Zayn saving Owens led to a former enemies turning into the best of friends. The duo carried SmackDown in the winter of 2017 and into 2018, continuing their feud with Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan.

“Nothing turned out the way I expected it to, including that,” said Owens. “Now he’s hurt and it’s put a stall on things. We followed each other through everything. We’ve been friends, enemies, and everything in-between. For that to happen and for us to be linked in WWE in that way again, it just made sense. I feel like we only scratched the surface of what we could have done together. Hopefully he comes back and we can pick it back up.”

Unfortunately, the partnership was cut short once they were moved to Raw following WrestleMania due to Zayn undergoing rotator cuff surgery. Owens is also sidelined after undergoing double knee surgery in October
