Kevin Owens And Sami Zayn: It Would Make Sense For Jimmy Or Jey Uso To Dethrone Roman Reigns

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn name Jey or Jimmy Uso as the most fitting choice for the one who will end Roman Reigns’ historic title run.

Reigns has reigned supreme since WWE Payback 2020, where he won the Universal Championship. He then defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38. Reigns has held the gold for over 1,000 days, and the majority of his run has been part of a remarkable storyline alongside The Bloodline (Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman). Zayn unsuccessfully challenged for the gold at WWE Elimination Chamber 2023, but he and Owens defeated The Usos to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMani 39.

Speaking with Alex McCarthy for MailSport, Owens and Zayn were asked to name the person who should defeat Reigns and win the gold. Owens responded by pointing to either one of The Usos.

“Either Jey or Jimmy. I think both of those guys deserve the world and both those guys would be fantastic universal world champions or whatever you want to call them – I forget what they say. I think they’d be a shoe-in for that spot, they’d be great at it and, honestly, with the way everything has progressed and the heights they’ve reached, it certainly wouldn’t look out of place. So I think that would be a great idea, for sure,” Owens said

Likewise, Zayn noted that either Jimmy or Jey being the one to dethrone Reigns would make sense from a storyline perspective. He stated that a number of challengers have come and gone throughout Reigns, and a number of them would have been a fitting choice. However, he stated that while thse moments could have been special, Jimmy or Jey seem like they would be the most appropriate choice at this point.

“I think from a character and story perspective, it does make sense to see Jimmy or Jey do it at this point. I think a lot of characters have come along throughout the last three years who could have been a very fitting ending. I think I was one, Cody Rhodes was one, Drew McIntyre was maybe one – maybe not totally because of the broader story – but there’s been a couple of moments and people – even Kevin – points where it could put a bow on the story, the culmination of this whole thing. But, it does seem at this point after everything else, that Jimmy or Jey would be the most fitting for the story,” Zayn said.

Owens and Zayn defeated Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) to retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the June 30 episode of WWE SmackDown. Check out their post-match comments here.
