Kevin Kelly Says Not Knowing The Results Of Matches Makes For Better Moments On Commentary
Kevin Kelly likes to see how things unfold.
At NJPW Dominion, Kenny Omega ended the historic IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign of Kazuchika Okada and Kevin Kelly was on the English commentary team. He has called a lot of historic matches during his NJPW tenure and in an interview with Sporting News, Kelly said he does not know how the matches will end and that makes for better commentary.
“None of us know what’s going to happen. Let’s see how it unfolds. I do my best to weave in history and if there’s any opportunity to say this happened in a previous match and here was the outcome as a result,” said Kelly. “Those moments are made so much better because, it’s like, I know what I’m doing. I know how to call a wrestling match. Let’s see what’s going on.” he added.
Kelly also spoke about the other matches and historically significant events that he has had the pleasure of commentating and the upcoming G1 Climax that starts on Saturday and ends August 10th.
