Kenny Omega Wants His Match Against Jericho To Be A Wake Up Call To New Japan And WWE

Kenny Omega continually wants to amaze people, and his next targets are the WWE and New Japan itself.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Omega says that his match against Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 is meant to amaze both promotions and give them the wake up call he feels they need.

“I really want this match to be a wake-up call to New Japan and WWE” said Omega. “This match is going to open up a lot of eyes, and it’s going to invoke a feeling you’ve never felt when watching a wrestling match. It’s a clash of unique worlds, and the match we’re going to show with aggression, violence, and disdain is going to evoke a new kind of emotion from people watching."

This idea in particular stemmed from a 2016 angle he ran where he wore New Day shirts to the ring and continually called them out. With Jericho, this is a type of match up no one ever expected to happen, a perfect storm of events.

“We knew there was a small chance of that ever happening, but what we wanted to do was engage the fans with something that could be really fun” said Omega in regards to a feud with the New Day. “We wanted to show the idea of us working together and having this social media feud was fun for everyone, even if it was just a dream match. Now we almost have just that: a super-special guest from WWE in Chris Jericho, a disciple of Vince McMahon, coming into New Japan Pro Wrestling after saying he’d never work for anyone else but Vince."

And it's all going down relatively soon. Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega in a No DQ match for the IWGP United States title will be the co-main event of Wrestle Kingdom 12.
