Kenny Omega Says He Can’t Top What Kazuchika Okada Has Accomplished

Kenny Omega says his title reign will be different from Kazuchika Okada’s.

At the New Japan Pro Wrestling event Dominion, Kenny Omega defeated Kazuchika Okada to end the historic IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign and capture the title which has alluded him in NJPW. It was Okada’s fourth and longest reign with the belt and in an interview with Sports Illustrated Omega said he could never exceed what Okada has done.

“In a wrestling sense, what Okada accomplished is something I can never top. I excel in my creativity and ability to draw raw emotion. From these, I’ll tell stories different from Okada’s reign. It won’t necessarily be worse or better, but it will certainly be different. From that, I hope I can add layers of character to everyone I work with,” said Omega.

Omega will defend the Championship against Cody Rhodes in San Francisco at the NJPW G1 Special.

Fightful Wrestling had live coverage of Dominion and a recap was done on the Fightful Weekender podcast which was available to FightfulSelect.com subscribers and non-subscribers. There will also be live coverage for the NJPW G1 Special on July 7th.
