Kenny Omega Explains Why He Did Not Have Twitter For Years
Kenny Omega was not sure about getting t-shirts and Twitter.
For the majority of Kenny Omega's career, he has spent significant time in Japan wrestling for promotions like Dramatic Dream Team, All-Japan Pro Wrestling, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. In the Art of Wrestling podcast, Bullet Club members Omega, Nick Jackson, and Matt Jackson told host Colt Cabana about Omega being late to the game of merchandise and social media when he started wrestling at promotions in the United States more often. Nick Jackson said Omega was not confident in putting himself out there.
"I remember Kenny saying this: 'is it worth it?' You had self-doubt in yourself. I remember Kenny saying 'Do you think people would buy my shirt?' And Matt and I were like 'are you kidding me? Of Course,'" said Nick Jackson.
The Young Bucks said they showed Omega how to set up a store on ProWrestlingTees.com and how to interact with fans on Twitter. Omega explained why he had not done those things before.
"I had thought there was a mystique to being away from it all and perhaps there is. Maybe for a while, there is. 'The only way to catch me is to watch me where I wrestle,'" said Omega. "Or the odd podcast I do, you're going to have to tune into that. I thought at that point that was a really good business strategy. Maybe it's cool for the fan that wants to feel 'hey I found this,'" he continued.
Omega said in retrospect the plan was cutting him off from a revenue source. The three members of Bullet Club also discussed the large amounts of t-shirts sold by all the members of Bullet Club including Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll.
