Kenny Omega Explains How He Became A Star Without WWE
Kenny Omega credits the internet for his success.
In a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Kenny Omega was complimented on becoming one of the most talked about wrestlers without the help of WWE. Omega said a few things came together at the right time for his success to be possible.
"I think the digital age helped a lot and I think that…there was a moment in time when I really felt like professional wrestling was taking a huge backseat to mixed-martial-arts. I think things came full circle. When they came full circle and pro wrestling kind of regained it's popularity again within the general public, this is when the digital boom, the streaming boom had come into place. It gave people the power to see wrestling from pretty much anywhere and everywhere," said Omega.
Because wrestling was more accessible Omega believes people were exposed to his matches and shared them with other fans.
"Perhaps through word of mouth or whatever…somehow my matches became a topic of conversation outside of what had happened in WWE," said Omega. "I'd always wanted to be someone that people would look at as a feature performer," he added.
Also in the interview, Omega was asked about his biggest matches over the last couple years, the stories he tells in the ring, and this weekend's Strong Style Evolved event for which Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage and a recapping podcast.
