Kenny Omega Did Not Have IWGP US Title With Him Due To “Comedy Of Errors”

Kenny Omega successfully defended the IWGP United States title this past Sunday. So why didn't he have the physical title with him at Global Wars: Chicago?

Well, Dave Meltzer explained on yesterday's edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. It was relatively simple — it was all just a big misunderstanding.

"There was a mix-up" Meltzer explained. New Japan had the belt and he thought he had the belt. It was a comedy of errors and nobody brought the belt to the building. That was the real reason."

Kenny Omega, sans belt, successfully defended the championship against YOSHI-HASHI on Sunday at ROH Global Wars. It was a competitive match, but constant interference from the Bullet Club allowed Omega to get the upper hand, pinning YOSHI-HASHI after a One Winged Angel.

After the match, they decided to do a end of the tour selfie. Realizing that no one had their phone on them, or a phone with a camera on it, the Bullet Club looked for someone in the crowd to take their picture for them. None other than Jimmy Jacobs accepted the task, taking a selfie with the group.

This is Kenny Omega's second defense of the title, as he also successfully defended the title late last month at Destruction in Kobe.
