Keith Lee Believes He Is Above Twitter Disputes, Calls Them Distracting

Keith Lee isn’t about getting into a war of words.

With the Wednesday Night War between AEW and NXT in full swing, there has been a war of words between wrestlers from the two promotions. The biggest shots came via Kenny Omega and Dominik Dijakovic over Omega’s comments where he called NXT wrestlers “developmental talent” who would be “the opening match to his main event.” Dijakovic responded, noting that his match with Keith Lee at PWG Battle of Los Angeles 2017 stole the show, which also featured Omega.

Despite being tagged in the post, Lee did not participate in the exchange.

“I am a person that believes I am above things of that nature,” Lee told Sports Illustrated. “The moment I saw my name tagged in something that did not make sense for me to be tagged in, I just ignored it. I didn’t pay any real attention to it. That’s the honest truth. All that noise is distracting from the potential success one could have. It takes away from what could be, as opposed to being able to prove what you’re looking to prove. Otherwise, you’re spending your energy on the Internet. There are things I could be doing to be productive and further my own goals and ambitions. So that’s what I try to do.”

Lee and Dijakovic have renewed their rivalry in NXT, competing in a series of bouts that have received praise from NXT fans.

On the subject of his matches with Dijakovic, Lee said, “Any time I get to have a match with Mr. Dijakovic, it’s something special. Now there aren’t just a select few who are aware of it—the world is now seeing it. Good or bad, the internet explodes when it occurs. There have been scenarios where some people voiced displeasure in the competitive nature we carry, but I love it. And I love the way fans have embraced it and appreciate it.”

The two men will clash once again on Wednesday’s NXT when they square off in a triple threat match against Roderick Strong for the NXT North American Championship.

Fightful will have live coverage of NXT beginning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
