Keiji Mutoh (The Great Muta) ‘Permanently Seals’ His Moonsault Press
Keiji Mutoh is tucking his moonsault press away.
Mutoh, known by many fans as The Great Muta, told Tokyo Sports (translation via Eastern Lariat), that he will “permanently seal” his famous moonsault press.
“I won’t do it anymore. That’s the end,” Muto said. He says fans were worried about him and said “Please don’t do it again, because I want to keep watching your fights.”
Mutoh used the moonsault press on June 6 against Naomichi Marufuji at CyberFight Festival 2021. Mutoh lost the bout, losing the GHC Heavyweight Title as well.
Mutoh underwent artificial joint replacement of both knees in March 2018 and the moonsault press takes a toll on his knees.
“I was interviewed in this way only because I was lucky. If I was unlucky, my femur might have broken and I couldn’t walk for the rest of my life,” he said.
He went on to say that he was scolded by a doctor against the match with Marufuji. Fortunately, the artificial joint was not broken after the bout. Had it been broken, he says it could not be replaced.
Mutoh last wrestled on June 27 at NOAH Muta The World, defeating Kenou.
